NPCI International Payments Limited and Vietnam's National Payment Corporation (NAPAS) signed a memorandum of understanding on May 6, 2026, to establish cross-border QR code interoperability between their respective payment systems. The agreement was one of 13 bilateral MoUs signed during Vietnamese President To Lam's three-day state visit to India.

The linkage will allow Indian travelers to pay at Vietnamese merchants by scanning QR codes through UPI apps. Vietnamese visitors will gain reciprocal access to UPI merchant touchpoints in India through NAPAS-linked applications. The Reserve Bank of India and the State Bank of Vietnam signed a separate MoU on cooperation in payment systems and digital payment innovation.

Vietnam becomes the fourth Southeast Asian market for UPI cross-border payments, following Singapore's live PayNow linkage and planned integrations with Malaysia's DuitNow and Cambodia's KHQR. No commercial launch date has been announced for the corridor.
