PayShap has processed 461 million transactions worth R403 billion in its first three years of operation. The milestone was reported in an IT-Online assessment of the system's third anniversary published on March 31, 2026. By mid-2025, cumulative totals had stood at 136 million transactions and R100 billion in value.

The growth trajectory from mid-2025 implies a current daily run rate of approximately 1.35 million transactions settling roughly R1.2 billion. The system has registered approximately 4.5 million ShapIDs, the proxy identifiers enabling payments via mobile number rather than bank account details.

PayShap Request, a request-to-pay feature for merchant-initiated payments, launched commercially through fintech Ozow in July 2025. PayInc continues to expand the system's merchant footprint as South Africa positions PayShap as its default real-time payment rail.
