The Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey's FAST system processed 3.3 billion transactions in 2023. Total value reached TRY 8.86 trillion. Daily throughput averaged 9 million transactions. Average daily value was TRY 24.3 billion. The system recorded a single-day peak of 19 million transactions on November 15, 2023. Volume increased 83% from 1.8 billion transactions in 2022. Value more than quadrupled from TRY 2.07 trillion.
Transaction limit increases have been the primary adoption driver. The CBRT raised FAST transfer caps from TRY 20,000 to TRY 50,000 during 2023. In April 2024, the transfer cap rose to TRY 100,000. The merchant QR payment cap was raised to TRY 250,000. By January 2024, daily throughput had climbed to 11 million transactions.
The CBRT expanded FAST beyond basic transfers in 2024 with a request-to-pay overlay service. An escrow overlay for e-commerce transactions followed later that year. All FAST transactions settle in central bank money within approximately one second. The CBRT operates FAST as sole owner and regulator, running the system 24/7/365.
