UPI processed 22.35 billion transactions in April 2026. These transactions carried a combined value of Rs 29.03 lakh crore. The resulting average transaction value was approximately Rs 1,299. Transaction volume grew 25% compared to April 2025. Value grew 21% over the same period. The four-percentage-point gap confirms that small-value payments are driving the bulk of new network activity.
India's active UPI QR merchant touchpoints reached 731 million by the end of calendar year 2025. This represented a 32% increase over 2024 according to Worldline's India Digital Payments Report. New acceptance points are concentrated among small retailers, street vendors, and transit operators. UPI Lite, which enables offline payments up to Rs 500 without PIN verification, has further expanded the addressable market for micro-transactions. The structural shift toward lower-value payments is likely to persist as merchant digitization extends deeper into India's informal economy.
