IFR (EU/EEA)

The Interchange Fee Regulation caps consumer debit interchange at 0.20% and consumer credit at 0.30% for domestic and intra-EEA transactions. Commercial cards are exempt.

Durbin Amendment (US)

Caps debit card interchange at 0.05% + $0.21 for banks with assets over $10B. Smaller issuers are exempt. Credit card interchange is not regulated.

UK Post-Brexit

UK retained IFR caps for domestic transactions but UK–EEA cross-border interchange is no longer regulated, leading to significantly higher rates (1.15% debit, 1.50% credit).
