The Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina processed 53.4 million payment transactions worth KM 183.0 billion across its RTGS and Gyro Clearing systems in 2024. Settlement value grew 12.2 percent from KM 163.1 billion in 2023. Interbank transactions accounted for 55 percent of total value despite representing 44 percent of count.
CBBH operates a unified settlement platform serving 29 direct participants despite the country's dual-entity political structure. The RTGS system handles payments above KM 10,000 with real-time finality. Gyro Clearing processes smaller retail transactions in four daily cycles. The RTGS transaction fee rose to KM 2.05 from November 2024.
Bosnia and Herzegovina held a formal SEPA accession meeting in February 2024. CBBH is developing instant payment capabilities in collaboration with the Bank of Italy, following the TIPS architectural model. The convertible mark is pegged to the euro at 1.95583 under the currency board arrangement. Full SEPA compliance will require ISO 20022 migration and payment scheme adherence.
