PIX processed 297.4 million transactions on Black Friday (November 28, 2025), moving R$166.2 billion in a single day - a 19% increase over the previous record of 250.5 million transactions set on April 6, 2024.
2025 Full-Year Scale
PIX processed approximately 80 billion transactions in 2025, moving R$35.3 trillion (approximately USD 6.7 trillion) - a 34% year-over-year increase. Monthly transaction counts were on track to reach 7.9 billion by December 2025. PIX now processes value equivalent to roughly 7x Brazil's annual GDP.
Product Expansion
BCB launched PIX Automático on June 16, 2025, enabling automated recurring payments (subscriptions, utilities, rent) with one-time user authorization - filling the last major gap in PIX's product suite. PIX by Proximity (NFC contactless) launched February 28, 2025, enabling tap-to-pay at terminals. A public consultation on PIX Internacional (cross-border) opened September 19, 2025.
Why It Matters
PIX's daily volume exceeds the entire monthly throughput of most European instant payment systems. The system's expansion into NFC point-of-sale, recurring payments, and planned cross-border capability means it increasingly competes with card networks across every payment use case - not just person-to-person transfers.
