AikBank became the first Serbian bank to process SEPA credit transfers in May 2026. Serbia's Operational Readiness Date took effect this month, following the European Payments Council Board's approval of the country's inclusion in the SEPA geographic scope in May 2025.
The European Commission formally welcomed Serbia's operational participation on May 5. Serbia is the fifth EU enlargement partner to join SEPA, following Albania, Moldova, Montenegro, and North Macedonia.
Serbian payment service providers can now participate in both the SEPA Credit Transfer and SEPA Direct Debit schemes across all 41 SEPA member countries. Additional Serbian banks are expected to complete adherence through subsequent EPC registration windows in the coming months.
