EBA Clearing announced on 16 June 2026 that Denmark's banking community has selected its STEP2 platform to process bulk retail payments in Danish kroner. The STEP2 DKK service is scheduled to go live in November 2026. Clearing Services P/S, a subsidiary of Finans Danmark, will operate the new service in collaboration with EBA Clearing.
STEP2 currently processes over 70 million euro-denominated SEPA transactions daily for more than 4,800 payment service providers across SEPA countries. Danish PSPs already connected for SEPA euro payments will reuse their existing STEP2 connectivity for krone clearing. The service adopts the Nordic Payments Council's NPC Credit Transfer format based on ISO 20022.
Batch payment migration from the existing Intradagclearing will begin in Q2 2027. The Intradagclearing and Sumclearing systems, currently operated by Mastercard Payment Services Infrastructure on behalf of Finans Danmark, will be progressively decommissioned after a parallel running period. This is the first time STEP2 will clear a non-euro currency.
