UPI processed 24.07 billion transactions in September, 23 percent more than in September 2025, according to NPCI data released on 1 October. Transaction value reached Rs 29.37 lakh crore, 18 percent above the same month in 2025.
NPCI applies a merchant discount rate of 0.4 percent to person-to-merchant UPI payments above Rs 2,000 from 15 October, capped at Rs 300 for transactions of Rs 75,000 and above. Responses from the Centre, the Reserve Bank of India and NPCI on a petition filed by advocate Anjan Datta challenging the fee are due in the Supreme Court within four weeks of its 28 September 2026 hearing.
