India's Unified Payments Interface reached its tenth year on May 1, 2026, having grown from 44 participating banks at launch to 703, and now processing roughly half of all global real-time payment transactions.

UPI Marks 10th Anniversary with 703 Banks and 748 Million Daily Transactions
India's Unified Payments Interface completed ten years of operation on May 1, 2026. The system processed 24,162 crore transactions in FY 2025-26, a 12,000-fold increase from its first full year. UPI now handles approximately 600 million transactions daily.
UPI accounts for nearly 49% of global real-time payment volume. The number of banks live on the platform grew from 44 in FY 2016-17 to 703 by FY 2025-26.
UPI is now operational for cross-border payments in countries including the UAE, Singapore, and France.
