Vietnam's national payment switch NAPAS launched a cross-border QR payment service with Ant International and Vietcombank on April 3, 2026. Chinese tourists can use the Alipay e-wallet to scan VietQR Global codes at merchants across the NAPAS network. Transactions are processed through NAPAS-Ant International connectivity infrastructure with Vietcombank handling clearing and settlement. Payments settle directly between the Chinese Yuan and Vietnamese Dong.
The service covers shopping centres, retail stores, restaurants, hotels, and tourist destinations within the NAPAS member network. Alipay serves over one billion users globally. China has ranked among Vietnam's largest inbound tourist source markets for several consecutive years.
NAPAS launched a separate cross-border QR link with UnionPay International in December 2025. The next phase will enable Vietnamese consumers to scan Alipay QR codes when traveling in China.
