BCCR is designing a new SINPE Móvil version that adds QR-code payments and is evaluating contactless; its payment-systems director said pilots could begin in 2028. Daily limits have differed by channel since June 2026 under a reform to the Reglamento del Sistema Nacional de Pagos Electrónicos, with a lower cap for unauthenticated SMS and WhatsApp transfers than for bank apps and online banking. Transfers within the daily SMS threshold are free to the customer.
