The Banco Central do Brasil launched the Duplicata Escritural platform on June 30, 2026, establishing a centralized digital registry for trade receivables. The system targets a market estimated at R$11 trillion in annual trade invoices. Only about one in ten of these receivables is currently used as collateral, limiting credit access for millions of businesses.
The registry assigns each trade invoice a unique electronic record, eliminating the risk of duplicate pledging that has historically deterred lenders. An estimated 2 million companies issue duplicatas in Brazil, with 18,000 large companies classified as primary drawees.
Mandatory adoption follows a phased schedule under BCB Resolution 540/2025. Large companies must register digital duplicatas by June 2027, medium companies by December 2027, and small companies by June 2028. The assisted production phase begins in July 2026.
