Bankgirot stopped accepting direct payment file submissions from non-bank entities on 1 July 2026. All payment file communication for products other than Autogiro and E-invoice must now be routed through participating banks. The change completes the first phase of Bankgirot's transformation program.
Bankgirot also retired its money order product, Bankgiro Vardeavi, on 30 June 2026. Several other legacy services are being discontinued, including Leverantorsbetalningar (Supplier Payments) and Bg Lon (Salary Payments). Autogiro direct debit and E-invoice services remain unaffected.
Phase 2 targets 30 November 2026 for migrating Bankgiro and Plusgiro payment numbers to a new ISO 20022 platform. The new platform will reduce daily clearing cycles from 12 to 10. Payment message fields will expand from 12 to 140 characters.
