Bankgirot discontinued its Leverantörsbetalningar and Utlands-LB supplier payment services on 12 May 2026. Bankgiro Värdeavi, the money order product, ceases on 30 June 2026. On 1 July 2026, Bankgirot will stop accepting direct file communications from businesses. All payment file transfers must then route through participating banks.
Bg Lön, the salary payment service, shuts down on 1 August 2026. From 1 September 2026, all payments processed through Bankgirot must use ISO 20022 XML format. Bankgirot's legacy proprietary message formats will be permanently retired on the same date.
Bankgirot processed an average of 9.3 million transactions daily in 2025. The system operates with 27 direct participants. The clearing house completed its first SEK Credit Transfer on the new infrastructure in late 2025. Banks have been progressively migrating payment flows throughout 2026. Autogiro and Bg E-faktura services are excluded from the transformation and will continue operating on existing infrastructure.
