NPCI BHIM Services Limited said on 14 October 2026 that Tatkal NPS is now available on the BHIM Payments App. The Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority introduced Tatkal NPS, which opens a National Pension System account through the app in three steps, without a branch visit or submission of fresh paperwork. Users enter their date of birth, select an eligible bank account and make their first NPS contribution through UPI.
The minimum initial contribution to open an account through Tatkal NPS is Rs 250. Eligible Indian citizens between 18 and 85 years can open an account this way, and subsequent contributions can be made from Rs 10, subject to applicable NPS requirements.
Tatkal NPS is currently available on the BHIM app to banking customers of State Bank of India, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Axis Bank, IndusInd Bank and Bank of Baroda, and NPCI BHIM Services Limited expects additional banks to be added subsequently.
