Dutch merchants completed the mandatory iDEAL|Wero co-branding update on March 31, 2026. iDEAL handles approximately 72 percent of Dutch online payments. The scheme serves an estimated 210,000 to 350,000 merchant acceptance points. Every checkout now displays the dual-branded logo.
The branding change left the underlying payment infrastructure intact. ING confirms the next step is a full technical migration to Wero infrastructure. The migration includes a contractual update to unlock all Wero features. This routing shift requires explicit approval from De Nederlandsche Bank. No timeline for that regulatory decision has been published.
ING targets Q4 2026 for the expanded rollout. The Wero platform will introduce subscriptions, refunds, and standalone peer-to-peer payments for Dutch users. The sunset date for iDEAL remains unresolved. ING describes it as pending market consultation.
