Luxembourg's five EPI member banks are on track to launch the Wero standalone app during summer 2026. Consumers will download a dedicated application and complete an onboarding process to link their bank accounts. On the acquiring side, Payconiq's Luxembourg merchant portfolio was transferred to Buckaroo following regulatory approval in January 2026.

A four-month coexistence period runs from July through September 2026. Payconiq is permanently discontinued from October, with Wero becoming Luxembourg's sole mobile payment solution. Merchants have been advised not to print new Payconiq QR codes for use after summer 2026.

Luxembourg is the first market where Wero fully replaces a domestic payment scheme rather than launching alongside one. The compact transition window contrasts with the Netherlands, where iDEAL's migration to Wero extends to end-2027 across an estimated 210,000 to 350,000 merchant acceptance points. After the initial payment functionality, Wero in Luxembourg will expand to subscription management, automatic payments, and rental deposit services.
