India and France agreed to extend UPI acceptance to Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris and Nice Airport. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri confirmed the deployments would go live within the coming week. The agreement was reached during bilateral talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Emmanuel Macron at Villa Kerylos in Nice on June 14.

UPI has been operational at the Eiffel Tower since July 3, 2024. NPCI International Payments Limited partnered with French payments firm Lyra Network to facilitate the deployment. The two leaders discussed expanding UPI acceptance to additional French cities.

France became the first European country to accept UPI payments in 2023. The Nice meeting was the first between Modi and Macron since India and France elevated their relationship to a Special Global Strategic Partnership earlier in 2026.
