NPCI's state-wise data for September 2026 records 10.65 billion UPI transactions under Unclassified, 44 percent of the 24.07 billion transactions it reported nationally. The Unclassified row covers transactions NPCI could not place in a state, and the operator has not redistributed them among the states.
The same state-wise data puts the Unclassified share at 13 percent in April 2023 and the row at 10.88 billion transactions in August 2026. Among classified states, Maharashtra was the largest in September at 2.36 billion transactions, with Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh at about 1.25 billion each. By value, the Unclassified row carried Rs 11.48 lakh crore in September, against Rs 2,73,884 crore in Maharashtra.
