Germany became the first Wero ecommerce market in November 2025. Sparkassen and Volksbanken/Raiffeisenbanken processed the initial merchant transactions. Belgium followed as the second market on March 3, 2026. ING, KBC, and BNP Paribas Fortis powered the Belgian launch. France has approximately 16 million active Wero peer-to-peer users. EPI France Country Lead Fabrice Le Gall has stated France is targeting end of October 2026 for its ecommerce launch.
The eleven-month gap between Germany and France reflects the coordination required across distinct national banking ecosystems. French banks are spending the first half of 2026 on technical integration. Merchant agreements with Air France, E.Leclerc, Orange, Veepee, and Dott were formalized in advance. BNP Paribas is leading the bank-side integration through its AXEPTA acquiring unit. A broader marketing push is planned for early 2027.
The Netherlands and Luxembourg round out the 2026 ecommerce calendar. Dutch merchants completed the mandatory iDEAL|Wero co-branding deadline on March 31. Technical transaction routing to Wero infrastructure is planned for the second half of 2026, subject to DNB approval. Luxembourg's standalone Wero app launches mid-2026. Buckaroo is managing the merchant portfolio migration from Payconiq through September 2026. Full cross-border ecommerce acceptance across all five launch markets will not materialize until early 2027 at the earliest.
