PSA Payment Services Austria, the domestic payment infrastructure provider for Austrian banks, announced in January 2026 that it would prepare issuing support services for Wero. The initiative creates the technical and operational foundation for Austrian banks to connect to the Wero network. PSA also provides payment processing services for German banks, making its Wero integration relevant for both markets.
Raiffeisen Bank International joined EPI as an Acceptor PSP in November 2025. RBI was the first EPI scheme member headquartered outside the initial launch countries of Germany, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg. As Acceptor PSP, RBI enables merchants within its network to accept Wero payments for e-commerce transactions. RBI operates banking subsidiaries across Central and Eastern European markets including Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania, and Slovakia.
No consumer launch date for Wero in Austria has been announced. The rollout status remains at the exploring phase for P2P, online payments, and point-of-sale. Austria would become the sixth direct Wero market, complementing the five founding countries where coverage rates reach 84 to 90 percent of bank accounts. PSA's issuing infrastructure work and RBI's merchant acceptance capability represent both sides of the two-sided network required for a functioning payment scheme in a new market.
