The Banco Central do Brasil published rules in the Diario Oficial da Uniao on April 27, 2026 granting new supervisory powers over PIX participants. The central bank can now require any institution in the PIX arrangement to submit an independent audit report prepared by an auditor registered with the Comissao de Valores Mobiliarios. Audits may be triggered as part of routine verification or following formal notification of rule violations.

Participants that remain without an active liquidator in the Sistema de Pagamentos Instantaneos for more than 90 consecutive days will lose their PIX participation status. The central bank also gained the power to formally summon PIX participant representatives for clarifications regarding institutional operations. Enhancements to the Mecanismo Especial de Devolucao take effect July 1, 2026.
