India's Ministry of External Affairs confirmed on 22 May 2026 that UPI will become operational in Cyprus from 2027. NPCI International Payments Limited has signed an MoU with Eurobank Cyprus to enable the expansion.
The agreement was reached during Prime Minister Modi's visit to Cyprus in June 2025 during its EU Council presidency. Cyprus will become the second European country to accept UPI payments after France.
UPI acceptance is currently available in countries including Singapore, UAE, Nepal, Sri Lanka, France, and Bhutan.
