ING Germany launched Wero for e-commerce payments on June 3, 2026. Current account holders at the bank can now pay at participating online retailers directly from their accounts.
Around 600,000 ING Germany customers have activated Wero since the bank introduced peer-to-peer payments in August 2025. That represents approximately 15 percent of the bank's current account holders, which ING describes as one of the highest activation rates in the German market.
ING simplified adoption by integrating Wero's terms into its standard current account agreements, removing the need for a separate activation step. Point-of-sale payments will follow as the next expansion phase.
