ING said in July 2026 that private customers who use the ING Scanner for online payments would no longer be able to pay that way from October 2026. The Scanner is a hardware device that lets ING customers confirm online payments instead of using the mobile app. ING says it is not technically feasible to make Wero functionality available on the Scanner. Fewer than one percent of all iDEAL transactions still run through the Scanner, according to the bank.

Rabobank will keep the Rabo Scanner available for online payments after Wero is introduced. ABN AMRO is gradually replacing its e.dentifier with a new USB Security Key. Around 250,000 ABN AMRO customers still use the e.dentifier, about 4 percent of its client base.

From October 2026 iDEAL|Wero payments transition gradually to the Wero infrastructure. The Dutch Payments Association says consumers will continue to pay through their own bank and will not need to make any changes with their bank.

EPI has said Wero scheme pricing will remain broadly aligned with the current iDEAL | Wero pricing level until 31 December 2028. Dutch banks and payment service providers will collectively introduce Purchase Protection, with the objective of achieving full coverage by 1 January 2028.
