The Luxembourg banking association ABBL confirmed that Wero will launch in Luxembourg from July 2026. Five banks will participate in the launch: BGL BNP Paribas, BIL, Banque Raiffeisen, Spuerkeess, and Post Luxembourg. From July through September 2026, Payconiq and Wero will coexist in the Luxembourg market, giving consumers and merchants a defined window to transition. From October 2026, Payconiq will be permanently discontinued and Wero becomes the sole mobile payment solution.

The transition depends on regulatory approval of the transfer of Payconiq's direct merchant portfolio to Buckaroo, a Dutch-licensed payment company handling merchant onboarding for Wero in Luxembourg. Luxembourg's approach differs from Belgium, where Payconiq was rebranded to Bancontact Pay in March 2026 and continues operating alongside Wero. The Netherlands takes yet another path, with iDEAL's migration to Wero spanning approximately two years and technical routing changes not expected until late 2026. Luxembourg's three-month window represents the shortest transition timeline among Wero's deployment markets.

Luxembourg has approximately 870,000 to 990,000 compatible bank accounts across the five participating banks, making it a contained environment for this scheme replacement. Merchants are advised not to print new Payconiq QR codes intended for use after summer 2026. The five banks' operational readiness and Buckaroo's regulatory clearance will determine whether the July timeline holds.
