Russia's Faster Payments System (SBP), operated by the Bank of Russia via NSPK since 28 January 2019. 24/7/365 instant interbank transfers via mobile phone number, QR code payments, and C2B payments. Individual transfer limit: RUB 1M per transaction. Consumer transfers up to RUB 100K/month are fee-free (mandatory since 2022). 2024 full-year: 13.4B transactions, RUB 69.5T value (2x 2023). Q4 2024 peak: 4.16B operations, RUB 23.9T (~one-third of annual total). Q1 2025: >RUB 22T in volume, sustaining Q4 2024 pace. Cumulative by 1 March 2026: 45.8B transactions, RUB 239.6T across 226 banks. SBP accounts for 68% of interbank retail transfer turnover (H1 2024, Financial Market Association). Settlement in central bank money through Bank of Russia payment infrastructure; each transaction processed individually (RTGS). Moscow Metro piloting SBP-based fare payments (2025). Integration with digital ruble CBDC planned, pilot programs underway early 2026. Russia exploring SBP-compatible payment infrastructure expansion to Global South countries for alternative cross-border payment corridors.
