Record · SPFS
SPFS is a messaging system (like SWIFT), not a settlement system. Developed as contingency against potential SWIFT disconnection. After 2022 sanctions disconnected major Russian banks from SWIFT, SPFS usage surged. Connected to banks in Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Armenia, and expanding to others. Handles ~20% of Russian interbank financial messaging. Plans to connect with China's CIPS.
