Tanzania's national retail switch, operated by the Bank of Tanzania and classified as a systemically important payment system alongside TISS and TACH. The BoT NPS Annual Report 2025 shows 2025 volume up 42.31% and value up 84.28% on 2024; its Annex B lists 46 participants for 2025 while the narrative cites 47 PSPs, so the participant figure carries a one-unit source discrepancy. During 2025 TIPS completed integration with the Government Electronic Payment Gateway and began carrying incoming international money transfers. Government mandated electronic payments in key sectors from July 2026 under the Electronic Transactions (Mandatory Electronic Payments for Specified Transactions) Regulations 2026.
