The Banco Central do Brasil has prohibited advertising, publicity, commercial offers and hyperlinks on Pix payment receipts. The prohibition extends to any content unrelated to the transaction. The central bank published the measure on 3 September 2026 in a new version of the minimum user experience requirements manual that forms part of the Pix Regulation. The rules become mandatory on 1 March 2027.
The central bank said the measure preserves the exclusive purpose of the receipt, which is to record and demonstrate the transaction carried out. It also said the change reduces the risk that the document is used as a vector for scams, particularly through fraudulent links.
The same version of the manual reworks the journey for contesting transactions through the Mecanismo Especial de Devolução, the Pix special return mechanism. The revised screens present fraud scenarios in everyday language so the user can identify the type of scam suffered. They add fields where the user can describe what happened and attach documents and receipts.
A separate change to the same mechanism took effect on 1 September 2026. Instrução Normativa BCB nº 766 raised from 30 to 80 days the window in which a recipient can contest a return carried out through the Mecanismo Especial de Devolução. The Banco Central do Brasil directed that change at merchants, service providers and small businesses that receive a legitimate Pix and then lose the money to a fraudulent contestation opened by the payer. Institutions have until 1 March 2027 to adapt their systems to the receipt rules.
