RHB Bank will apply merchant discount rates of 0.35 per cent per transaction on DuitNow QR payments funded from current accounts, savings accounts or e-wallets, and 0.60 per cent on credit card payments, from 26 October 2026. PayNet, which operates DuitNow QR, says consumers can make payments without additional charges, while merchants may incur merchant discount rates determined by their banks or payment providers.

Malaysia's Ministry of Finance said in a Facebook post on Sunday 18 October that a circulating poster claiming QR payments will incur a new service charge from 1 November 2026 is false, and that it has made no such announcement; the poster did not identify any specific QR payment scheme, bank or e-wallet.

Other providers apply different rates. UOB Malaysia lists no merchant charges for DuitNow QR payments funded through current accounts, savings accounts or e-wallets until 31 December 2026, while credit card-funded payments carry a 0.25 per cent fee. These merchant-specific charges differ from the blanket QR service charge alleged in the circulating poster, which the Ministry of Finance has denied announcing.
