NPCI's Unified Payments Interface completed ten years of operations on August 25, 2026. Annual transaction volume surged roughly 13,000-fold over the decade, from 1.78 crore in FY2016-17 to 24,162 crore in FY2025-26. The IMF recognizes UPI as the world's largest real-time payment system, accounting for 49% of global real-time payment transactions in 2025.
July 2026 set the all-time monthly record at 2,366 crore transactions worth Rs 29.88 lakh crore. UPI merchant acceptance is now live in 11 countries including the UAE, France, Singapore, Nepal, and Cambodia.
