VR Payment has enabled Wero as a payment method at Stuewer vending machines in Germany, extending the European wallet from online checkouts into unattended retail. VR Payment set out the details for operators in a post dated 16 October 2026. The purchase is processed through an e-commerce solution with a dynamic QR code shown on the machine's display. No card terminal is required at the machine.
Customers scan the code with a Wero-enabled banking app on their smartphone before the goods are dispensed. VR Payment sets out three operator requirements: a permanent internet connection, a touch display, and an agreement with VR Payment to accept Wero.
The channel is small, but it shows how Wero can add physical acceptance points before EPI's in-store rollout, planned for 2027. EPI said when it joined nexo standards in October that it plans to develop such use cases further as part of its in-store payment rollout across markets in 2027. That rollout is set to include NFC integration in the long run, extending Wero beyond QR-based acceptance at the point of sale. Until then, the physical acceptance points Wero can reach are likely to be those that already have a screen and a network connection and no card terminal to replace.
