Wero has begun processing event-dependent transactions that trigger payment upon specific conditions such as goods delivery or click-and-collect pickup. The Dutch Payments Association confirmed event-driven payments as an active Wero functionality during an industry briefing on April 15, 2026. This conditional payment capability fills a gap in account-to-account systems where merchants have required card-on-file tokenization for fulfillment-contingent charges.
EPI plans to extend Wero into subscription and recurring payment management by the end of 2026. The capability would allow consumers to register Wero with subscription services in place of stored card credentials. German technology reporting from March 2026 identified streaming platforms including Netflix as target integration partners for the recurring payment functionality.
Wero's e-commerce merchant fee of approximately 0.7 percent undercuts international card scheme rates of 1.5 to 3.5 percent. Buyer protection has been live for Wero e-commerce in Germany and Belgium since early 2026. With event-dependent payments operational and subscription management planned for year-end, Wero is building functionality that extends beyond standard SEPA Instant Credit Transfer capabilities.
