NIBSS launched the National Payment Stack (NPS) on August 11, 2026, as the ISO 20022-compliant successor to the legacy NIP system. NPS processed 26.55M transactions worth NGN 1.4T across 48 institutions in its initial rollout period. First Bank leads in transaction volume; Fidelity Bank leads in transaction value. NPS unifies payments, identity, and data onto a single multi-currency rail with cross-border capabilities. NIP continues to operate during transition. Pilot phase (June 2026) recorded 153,000 transactions before broader rollout.
