Instrução Normativa BCB nº 746, dated June 16 and published June 18, 2026, revokes Article 16-A of Instrução Normativa BCB 512/2024. That article had imposed a dedicated R$500 maximum on individual PIX por Aproximação transactions since the feature launched in early 2025.
Participating institutions have until October 1, 2026 to update their systems. The instruction also extends user-adjustable daily limits to PIX Automático recurring payments.
The unified limit framework removes the last regulatory distinction between contactless and QR-code-initiated PIX payments at the terminal.
